Some diners occasionally mention that peak hours can lead to longer wait times, particularly on busy Sundays when the tavern hits full capacity. While the bustling atmosphere adds to the charm, it may not suit everyone. Some guests have suggested that the children’s menu could include more options, as not every little diner finds the current offerings appealing. Additionally, while the parking options are abundant, there can be confusion over pay-and-display areas, especially for first-time visitors unfamiliar with the area.
Loved eating at this Tavern. Fish was fantastic! Traveling from the US, it was exactly like what I thought annold British Tavern would be. Places like this, that make me want to come back.
Just fancied a roast but could be bothered to go out , absolutely delicious, highly recommended. Takeaway and delivery available. Nice little personal touch left on the lid of my horseradish container. Really impressed
My wife and friends visited the Castle twice during our recent visit to Gosport! What a lovely atmosphere there is, very much because of the presence of Lilly and Ruby who are both delightful young ladies. They made our stay very pleasant. Lilly in particular was great at engaging with us and other customers. The food was both delicious and plentiful. There is a clear support to the pub and we would definitely recommend to anyone desiring good food in a welcoming atmosphere. Lilly and Ruby of grandchildren of the owner who is happy to be front of house…a true family business. Thank you Lilly for remembering our names.
Visited for Sunday lunch and went away full to the brim. Generous portions of home cooked food. Very friendly service and lovely staff.
We went here for a Sunday lunch as part of my wife’s birthday celebrations. Really accommodating when making the booking for 8 people. My mother-in-law got in the few minutes early as we had a birthday cake to bring out and they were more than happy to stash it out the back until needed. Amazing Service. We all had 3 courses. All was brought out in a timely manner. Food was freshly cooked and piping hot. Really polite and friendly service throughout. Quite a few of us went for the Sunday Roast - great portion sizes. The Roast Potatoes were the best we’ve had on a long time! Had two kids with us aged 11 and 8 - and both loved their kids meals. Puddings were no exception. The staff brought the cake out with the candles lit, singing happy birthday. Also offered a knife and napkins etc in case we wanted to cut it up for members of our party to take home. Just an amazing experience from start to finish - very grateful to the staff for making it such a memorable birthday meal. Won’t hesitate to return and recommended to others. Thank you to all the brilliant team there.
Great pub with helpful staff and a good choice of real ale. Food is very good value, very nice homely cooking and generous portions. They also offer roasts as part of the regular menu. All in all a great pub frequented by locals and yachtsmen & yachtswomen.
I had a Lamb Roast for Sunday lunch. It was cooked beautifully and definitely much better than I could do at home. And then again why would you when you can arrive to friendly staff and enjoy such a great meal with no washing up.....for me that's absolutely perfect! Thankyou very much 🦩 Mrs R.
